Spherovelo: Curvy ride-on aims to improve toddlers’ balance

Scooter picAndy Loveland saw an apparent need for something to ease toddlers onto their first bicycles, and came up with the Spherovelo, which will let them fail better than a pedal bike (by rolling over instead of falling over).

The stabilising balls keep it steady for first learners, it’s fun and maneuverable and will turn in any direction. The clever thing happens though when you remove the little stabilisers – it becomes unstable and the child then utilises their developing motor skills to balance themselves and keep it upright.

All well and good: it is admirably simple, and might be an option for those who don’t choose scooters for the same result. (It does resemble a bulbous Drasine.)
