Jockey’s Ridge and the promise of scooting across N.C.

Today’s excursion was to Jockey’s Ridge State Park, attached to the largest sand dune on the east coast, under which, it’s speculated, locals once raced the Spanish Mustangs that ran wild in the area.

The giant dunes are also a hang-gliding mecca; here’s the entrance to the school. Also here is the eastern terminus of the unfinished Mountain to Sea Trail, which will someday allow hikers (and step-crossers) to cross North Carolina.
