Mush, I say!

Kickbiking dogPeople have hitched animals to scooters probably for as long as there have been scooters. It’s preferable, too, to hitch a dog to a footbike rather than a bicycle – on the latter, the bike is faster and has the mechanical advantage, and the dog must keep up. With a footbike the dog can set the pace (along with some occasional gentle help from the rider).

Similarly, sled-dogs can get good training by pulling a footbike, and this would seem to be a popular way to keep Balto in tiptop shape.

Here are two videos that show a sled-dog in training. The first begins with a mild jaunt around town; the second is a fast workout in the countryside, including a refreshing dip in a stream.
